'Now she waits for me at the door every day': A workplace stray named Oreo spends two years choosing her person and is finally going home

She went from stray to scheduled pickup.

For almost two years, a little stray named Oreo lived in a bush outside a workplace in Georgia while one employee showed up every day with food and patience. At first she treated him like a suspicious stranger. Then one day she tapped the tip of a sneaker with her face, as if signing a tiny contract. After that she started waiting by the door at the same time every day. Meals became appointments. Lately she'd trot after her human when it was time to go, clearly filing a complaint about early closing hours.

Somewhere along the way it stopped being a feeding schedule and turned into a relationship. Oreo wasn't just accepting food. She was clocking in to see her person. Leaving her outside started to feel wrong in a way that was hard to ignore. Highways, storms, and long nights don't mix well with a cat who has decided she belongs to someone.

After a lot of thinking, the conclusion became hard to argue with. Oreo is going home. The bond has been there for years, built in slow steps and quiet meetings by the door. Bringing her inside isn't a sudden rescue story. It's the next part in their relationship. The cat made her choice early and the human finally caught up.

    On top of that, I live relatively close to a highway. If I did take her home and she ever got back outside, I'd be terrified of her getting hurt or killed. So I'm stuck

  • She’s clearly chosen you as her person and didn’t even try to be subtle about it. Cats don’t run after just anyone, especially not for two years straight. That’s a long audition and you passed. When a cat decides you’re theirs, the paperwork is basically done. You can pretend it was your decision, but she made the call a while ago and has been waiting for you to catch up.
